Fun In The Sun - Corporate Edition

Finally! Summer! We might be jumping the gun here since the calendar start isn't technically until June 21st, but it's never too early to start planning for the best season of the year. Thinking back on some of our favorite summertime team gatherings, we put together some ideas for corporate events this season. Whether for business or for fun, the outdoors can be incorporated into our workday and brings invaluable yet simple benefits like fresh air and sunlight. Let's make the best of the warmth - it only lasts for so long!
Wellness Challenge
This is a great time to get your team started on a wellness challenge, when physical activity is more accessible outdoors. A simple "Steps Challenge" is a great and easy one to start with! It can look different depending on the abilities of the team, so it's important to consider every individual when setting any sort of parameters tied to performance. There is a ton of room for creativity in these challenges as well; our team created a points system tied to step count and had additional challenges for each week of the challenge!
This is a great way to get your team active, either individually or with others. It is especially convenient if your team works remotely, as they are still able to participate from wherever they are, as long as they have a smartphone or watch that tracks step count. Above all, walking is seriously refreshing, and good for your brain! It's a win-win for your team both professionally and personally.
Take a Hike (In A Nice Way)
Piggybacking off of the "walking is refreshing and good for your brain" part - taking walks in nature is even better for your physical and mental health! Do a quick search for local or state parks, trails, or other outdoor spaces that could get your team out of the office for a few hours. Here are a few of our favorites in the Lake Country and Milwaukee Area:

Ice Age Trail: Several locations, across the state of WI
Lapham Peak, Kettle Moraine State Forest: Delafield, WI
Lion's Den Gorge: Milwaukee, WI
Grant Park: Milwaukee, WI
Team Building Olympics
This activity is packed with fun and opportunities for laughter and team work! With a great array of games to choose from, there are endless possibilities for setting this up. It can be a regular sport like volleyball or basketball, or relay-race games instead. Bonus points if there are prizes at the end!

In games like these, you can learn skills you didn't know your coworkers have (or don't have). It also builds camaraderie among the team, presenting new challenges and new opportunities to problem solve together. Another notable mention is the very funny photo-ops that can come from it!
These are just a few of our favorites, but there are plenty ways to get your team outside, active, and connected this summer. Not sure what to plan? Throw out some options, and survey the team on their preference! Maximize your fun this season with an event away from the office and outside in the sun. Alexa, play Soak Up The Sun by Sheryl Crow.
